Haven't Been Paid Yet?
Wondering where your check is?

The truth is . . . you should allow a production company about 2 weeks after your first day on the set before getting worried.
After 2 weeks . . . then contact the production company's
accounting department

RamFilms provides the following to help you out.

Be Aware  -  John Robert Powers

It has come to the attention of RamFilms that someone in the
John Robert Powers organization is contacting some New Mexico actors and
telling them they have been called in to "Audition".

This is NOT an Audition for a film,

it is a sales pitch and they will be asking you to spend  upwards of 5,000 dollars to be a part of their acting  or modeling school.
Please be aware this is a modeling / acting school and RamFilms does NOT endorse or support the JRP  schools or it's programs.
RamFilms is not pleased  to be posting this notice concerning an upcoming Audition Workshop being conducted by a local casting director & a CD from LA,CA  (AKA LACA).

RamFilms has said this time & time again, on the website & to individuals.
"If the notice looks amateurish - what do you think the production will be?"

When the promo material, the copy, the press release, the ad or whatever means is used to bring an event, (Such as a workshop, a casting call etc. etc) to the public's attention to gain attendance to sell a product or service, if it looks unprofessional, more than likely that's what you'll encounter.

This notice proclaims a 6 hour workshop from 9am to 3pm, yet a little further down the ad it says it is a 5 hour intensive.  INTENSIVE? That's a good word. The ad never really says what you would be doing there. But it does state what you'll LEARN. More on that later.
The ad also states that there will be 3 of Albuquerque's TOP agencies there.
Let's get this foolishness straight right here & now.
1. Only one of the agencies attending is a SAG franchised agency & it has a new owner / manager.
2. One of the remaining agencies had their SAG franchise license pulled in 2008 & it has NOT been renewed.
3. The last agency is NOT even in Albq. It is being run from Santa Fe, NM out of some guy's house. It is NOT a SAG franchise agency either.
So how can they be TOP talent agencies?

What you'll LEARN
The ad claims:
1. How to analyze scripts & breakdown scenes ......
STOP ! - 99% of the local actors ONLY get a page of a scene & B5s (below five lines)
You are NOT going to get an entire script & oodles of scenes to drool over.
You will probably only get a page or two with a line or two & it'll probably be something     moronic  like, "Yep, me too."
2. How to handle nerves.
3. How to stand out ....
4. How to sharpen audition performance to get the callback.
Whoa now, Nelly. That sounds very much like a guarantee that by listening to this session & doing what they say you are sure to get a callback. (Which is spit until you have a contract.)
5. What a casting director looks for & insider tips.
This also means spit because these 2 CDs are talking about their own experiences & their own  likes & dislikes. They do NOT speak for the ENTIRE casting community. Furthermore, the info they will present is only half-good, because one CD is from LACA. Yes, that CD did cast here in NM but not enough to be an expert speaker on the subject.

Items 2 & 3 are good topics BUT here is a simple thought brought to the attention of this website & this writer from a LACA actor (this thought was also voiced by other LACA actors) so it's not just one guy on a bicycle tooting his own little horn.

This LACA actor said it simply, "That's a lot of cash to get questions answered, stuff you can find in a book or the internet."

Another LACA actor said, "They have those type of seminars every week out here. It's mostly proaganda. Its LITTLE tips on how to do things. It can be hit or miss. Some might be insightful and others might be what you already know. "

Here's the deal breaker - this workshop costs
$249 !!!!
In this economy? Are you crazed?  We're not getting that many extra parts here in New Mexico, much less speaking parts (Yes, LACA actors are still getting those parts.)  To top it all off, the majority of professional local actors are NOT being called in to audition anyway, it's recently been younger, less experienced, less business saavy local actors that have been called.

RamFilms is not trying to dissuade anyone from attending this or any other workshop. But this is so blatent it needs to be said. Doing business like this is unconscionable especially at that price & with unscrupulous.people passing themselves off as legit is also unprofessional. GOT IT?

The bottom line is: This workshop business purports to be aiding the local acting community & that is
waaay far from the truth. It is simply unprofessional business conducted for personal gain. That in itself is NOT right, it may not be illegal but it is unethical & it's just plain NOT right.

Please be aware that RamFilms does NOT endorse or support this type of business practice or  programs or presentations such as this.
